Comment: Great compressor strong enough to run most anything the home garage guy may encounter. Surprised to see this unit is still available for purchase (I bought it back in 2006). It has appreciated more than most stocks from around 2006 (I spent less than three hundred for it). I have had to replace the pressure sensor (would not auto-shut off) but it was in stock at a local distributor and cost $33. Not so big that it's cumbersome to roll around to where you need it but not too small to not be able to run sanders and other high consumption tools, just right.

Comment: The compressor, being an oiled design makes it SO much quieter than the oil-free compressor it is replacing. I can actually hear someone talk now when the compressor is running. Output seems to be OK but you won't be able to split the airline and run 2 cutoff wheels on it or anything like that. For the home-owner garage use it should be fine for me. I don't think I'll ever buy an oil-free compressor again after hearing the noise difference. Shouldn't need to buy another for a long time though since it is rated for 3,000 hours-that would be over 4 months of running 24x7.
The biggest problem I had was shipping. The first unit had a broken air regulator and pressure sending unit. The air filter also was knocked loose but not damaged during shipping. I was able to get a replacement sent to me by Amazon, but the replacement was damaged even more. Same items were damaged except this pressure regulator was even more broken (it was absolutely destroyed). I kept the first one since it was less damaged and was able to get replacement parts for cheap. Amazon said they wouldn't be able to ship me a third unit and even gave me a wrong number to try to get replacement parts. Well it was a number that could have sold them to me, but Amazon said I would be able to get free replacements from the number they gave me...that wasn't so. To their credit, Amazon did refund me some of the purchase price which I used to get the replacement parts. I think the problem is the item just isn't packed well enough from the factory to survive the shipping (first was Fedex Ground, second was UPS....both damaged). Some more bracing to keep the compressor from 'falling' inside the box onto the parts that broke would be helpful. The other review at this time also indicates he had problems receiving a compressor free of damage. The price jumps around alot, I got it for less then 50% of the current Amazon price of $498.72 but it only stayed at that price for I think 1 day then went up significantly. For $500 price, you could probably get a bigger unit if you needed it.
Oh, be sure to add oil before starting it up. There are labels all over it stating that, so if you do that, then you obviously didn't pay much attention to it before starting it up!

Comment: Quiet and dependable, high output and impressive quality at an unbelievable price. Before purchasing it I have compared 10 different models with similar characteristics in terms of Tank capacity, CFM@90psi, Max Pressure, Motor HP and Voltage. The CH VS5006 from Amazon was the obvious choice for under $300, everything comparable was over $400. The only incident was caused during shipping, FedEx ignored the UP sign on the box and rolled over the compressor on all sides , so I got it with a broken regulator, gauge and air filter cover. I found replacements for all of them so I have considered it a minor issue.
