Portability and quiet operation make the compressor especially versatile.
Versatile, High-Performance Compressor
Whether you're testing plumbing lines or making quick work of a remodeling project, the D55140's high-performance operation simplifies trim work and other jobs.

The D55140 features a one-gallon tank and a 2.6-amp motor that delivers 0.75 SCFM at 90 PSI and 135 PSI max, which makes for high-surge performance and quick recovery. Additionally, the draw motor offers easy startup and reduced breaker tripping, as well as a high-flow regulator that provides maximum air pressure to increase jobsite performance. And running at 69 dBA, the D55140 provides end users with a quieter operation compared to the competition.

The D55140 is also equipped with an oil-free, long-life pump, allowing for maintenance-free operation. The oil-free design of the pump eliminates the need for you to check or refill the pump, and it also helps keep your jobsite clean by preventing oil from transferring to your work surface.

Exceptionally Durable for Long Life
The efficient and unique design of the D55140 ensures maximum durability and longevity. DeWalt built the heavy-duty cast-iron compressor with an innovative roll cage and a full-protection frame designed to shield the unit from routine wear and tear and accidental damage. In addition, a wrap-around control panel covers the frame and provides further protection of key compressor components.Compact, Lightweight Design for Easy Portability
Measuring 24 pounds and with a height of just nine inches, the D55140 is ideal for those who prefer hand-carry compressors. For further convenience, DeWalt equipped the D55140 with a one-hand, universal quick connection for easy-to-use operation with any of your pneumatic tools. And for increased efficiency, the D55140 was designed with a ball drain valve for quick and thorough tank draining and with a convenient cord wrap for easy storage.

Summary: Possibly good for home garage... 2010-08-30
Comment: Read carefully that this is a "trim" gun and NOT a "Framing" gun compressor. I had two framers tacking trusses together and this compressor burned itself up in less that two hours on the job. Think long and hard about a gas powered(Honda) compressor (Rolair for example) if you need any volume of usage. Yes you'll spend three times as much, however, it will not let you down... Typically atleast.

Regards, Matt Garrett.

Summary: Compressor I wanted, not the compressor I needed 2010-08-13
Comment: You must heed the compressor desription of Trim Compressor, as a pin gun and airing tires is probably all it is capable of.
I retired a cheap pancake compressor after 8 years as it was blowing oil, loud, and blew a vinyl air line I was not interested in fixing.
I wanted a quiet, small compressor and found this DeWalt D55140 matched my requirements.
My compressor needs are tires, blowing off front and rear patios, and an occasional 3/8" wrench.
Received this DeWalt on Wednesday and read the manual. Thursday I ran the break in process twice with time to cool. Cool is relative, our patio was 100 degrees at 8 pm when I started the second 15 minute break in run.
I picked up a new air hose Saturday and was ready to blow off the yard debris our landscape crew leaves every week when they mow.
This DeWalt was pitiful. About 30 seconds of useful pressure and about 1 minute to recharge. Blow wait, blow wait, . . .
Decided this was not the compressor I need. Monday I requested RMA from Amazon and took this DeWalt to UPS for return.
I rated this compressor a 4 as it may be good for some people, just not me and I could not be mean.

Summary: Another Good DeWalt Design 2010-06-12
Comment: I needed a lightweight, portable compressor to allow me to take my various nail guns to work on friends and relatives projects. Others had given this DeWalt pretty good marks, and the price is certainly right. I always appreciate the thought that DeWalt puts into tool design...once in a while, they miss an ergonomic feature, but it's clearly not for lack of effort. This guy carries easily, will stand up for storage, and sits on rubber feet when in use, so it's quiet and stays put. Large, easy to read pressure guages, and easy to adjust regulator. Very quiet in operation...ideal for inside use...doesn't even startle the cats.

Plenty of oomph for all but the heaviest-duty uses. I wouldn't shingle a roof with it, but it keeps up with any finish work I do, and adequate for framing if you take a little time.

Others reviewers mentioned the break-in procedure. It's somewhere in the manual after pages of the usual caution/warning stuff. Wouldn't have known about it otherwise (you'd think they would put an advisory label over the power switch, or something visible like that.) Anyway, it's nothing more than 'open the drain valve and let it run for awhile' deal....but given the early failures a few other reviewers had, I'll take DeWalt's advice.

Had it for a month, and have used it several times. All in all, another terffic DeWalt value.

Summary: Excellent Product-Buy this if you need a small compressor! 2010-04-09
Comment: I looked at a number of compressors, and even purchased one, before returning it to the store, because it was loud and slow. This little compressor is compact, quiet and cycles back up to full pressure fast. If you are looking for a smaller compressor, this is the one! It took me a while to find it, but I am glad I did. This unit is worth the price over any other $100 compressor out there.

Summary: Great! Super quiet, tough and totally usable. 2010-03-23
Comment: I have Ridgid compressor but I like using this one all the time. It is so quiet and light. I can take it anywhere and start it.

Best compressor that I ever had.
