2.5 HP with Big Bore Engineered Pump
The MAC2400 is powered by a 2.5 HP motor. The Makita Big Bore engineered pump with cast iron cylinder has greater bore and stroke for increased compression, faster recovery and less noise. The cast iron construction is engineered for increased durability even under tough job-site conditions. The MAC2400 has an oil-lubricated pump and is equipped with a large automotive style filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency. The Big Bore oil-lubricated pump is also more efficient: the MAC2400 runs cooler and at half the RPM of most competitive units, resulting in greater motor and pump life and lower noise. The 4.2 gallon twin-stacked tank sustains an operating pressure of 130 PSI, and delivers 40PSI (4.8 CFM) and 90 PSI (4.2 CFM), enough for two nailers. The low AMP draw reduces instances of tripped breakers and voltage drop that can cause premature motor failure. The roll bar handle provides portability and additional protection, helping it withstand harsh jobsite environments. Additional features include a convenient oil drain and oil sight glass, a tank drain valve that supersedes standard petcock design for easier maintenance, and finned discharge tubing that dissipates heat more efficiently.

Versatile Design for a Range of Applications
The MAC2400 is engineered for low noise, high output and less maintenance, and delivers industrial power and results with improved durability under tough job site conditions. The MAC2400 is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering.

Summary: Makita Compressor 2010-02-09
Comment: Compressor recieved without issues. I purchased the Makita to use in installing my hardwood floors. It has no problem supporting both a brad nailer and my flooring nailer. I don't use this compressor as a contractor, just home improvements and never run out of air. It's quiet enough to use in the house and portable enough to move by just lifting and carrying (though it is heavy). Couldn't ask for more.

Summary: Exactly as I expected 2010-02-07
Comment: After reading all the reviews for this air compressor, I decided to make the purchase. The compressor was delivered as expected without any damages( as noted in earlier reviews). It has met all of my expectation for a small oiled air compressor. It is a bit heavy to move from site to site on a constant basis, so I placed it on top of a furniture dolly. This makes the compressor easy to move around.

Summary: Finally, a quiet shop 2009-12-15
Comment: I just can't believe how long I put up with the noise from my old oil-free P-C pancake compressor. This is a whole new experience! My dog is my constant companion in my woodshop; but, she has always been afraid of the compressor. Any time I started it, she'd insist on going inside the house to hide. It finally gave out, so I replaced it with this Makita. She was in the shop when I unpacked it and started it for its break-in period...and she didn't move. Next day, same thing. The sound of the pump just isn't that grating, annoying sound; more than just the change in volume, its easy to work around.
Oh, yea...its recovery time is fast; two outlets for two hoses; drain valve is convenient. Its the whole package. I couldn't be happier.

Summary: Startup Amps a bit more than 12.3 2009-12-13
Comment: I purchased this compressor in hopes that my Honda EU2000i would power it at 6500 feet in altitude for building a remote cabin. The Honda did push it when the starting air pressure was zero, but started overloading on replenishment. From my calculations, it takes about 2000 watts or 16.7 amps start-up current to run this compressor which makes sense since it does have a 2.5 hp motor. The motor will use about 1750 watts of power (14.5 amps) when it's about to hit 120 psi.

I couldn't be happier with this compressor. It powered my framing nailer, roofing nailer and palm nailer with ease. It's performance was very acceptable.

The MAC2400 is very very quiet compared to others I've had. Just be warned that the claimed amps it needs is really about 15 and not 12.3. I'd recommend.

Summary: Pick of the litter 2009-12-13
Comment: I have had several kinds of nail gun compressors that ran at 3600 RPM, and when working indoors with them they will drive a sane person batty Enter the 1800 rpm QUITE RUNNING Makita. I feel that a unit that turns at 3600 RPM will burn itself out far faster than the 1800 RPM Makita . The unit came well packed and ran just as expected. My only complaint is hauling it around the job site and in and out of the truck,But than again it's heavy but built like a tank. So far I have the feeling that it will be with me for quite some time. Don't think anyone running frame, trim or roofing guns will be able to find a better unit for the money.
